North Projects are proud of Adelaide team member Kyle Wei on his paper of Finite Element Analysis of Prestressed Bridge Decks Using Ultra High Performance Concrete which was published in the Australian Journal of Civil Engineering.

This paper presents a comprehensive numerical investigation using finite element analysis to assess the load carrying capacity of prestressed skewed bridges using Ultra-High Performance Fibre Reinforced Concrete (UHPFRC) subjected to Australian bridge load configurations. A preliminary study is performed on different types of prestressing modelling techniques to find a suitable mechanism for accurately representing the prestressing force in the bridge structure models. To ensure the accuracy of the modelling methods, the results obtained from this analysis are validated with experimental results.

During 2013 Kyle undertook this research in his final year of his Civil and Structural Engineering Degree at University of Adelaide. Early in 2016 Kyle was contacted by S.J. Fatemi (PhD), M.S. Mohammed Ali (Senior Lecturer) and Assoc. Prof. A.H. Sheikh as they were undertaking further analysis based on Kyle’s original research data. The final paper was published on 19 October 2017.

From Kyle’s research, this reiterates the strength of knowledge North Projects can now take forward to clients on our understanding of bridge structures.
